I’ve been obsessed with this idea for more than a year now, and this tells me it’s the right thing to go after. As someone who reads this newsletter once said:
“Do everything with the joyful of a 5 years old child.. or not do it at all.”
Remote work during the pandemic has given us a clearer picture that many of the old habits (like commuting to an office every day) aren’t at all necessary.
Our work life is getting shaken up by this trend. Meetings are an obvious candidate for a habit that’s broken. People just aren’t getting any work done, and it makes them miserable to sit through - especially if it could have been an email or a Slack message.
Enter MetaMeet
I’ve been experimenting with an MVP for about 6 months that is trying to make a simple solution work: a “weight-loss tracker for your work schedule”.
The insight is: Imagine you want to lose weight. You’d probably come up with the solution to work out more and eat healthier food, and plan a diet accordingly.
How do you know it works? You use a weight-scale. If your weight decreases, what you’re doing seems to be working. If not, try something else.
The weight-scale presents you with a moment of truth.
This doesn’t exist for meetings. Companies spend millions on consultants to help them improve their meeting culture, only to discover months later that things don’t seem to have changed - or did they? How do we know?
If it exists, I think it can help any company in the world loose at least 10% of their “meeting fat” and set free billions of hours in time for more productive work.
This is why I founded MetaMeet.
The Team
The team is me. I’ve been working with a developer for the time, with aim to become co-founders. But at the end of the process, we weren’t convinced we’re a good match. So I’m doing the crazy thing and be a non-technical solo-founder.
However, I learned in the process that I already have an amazing co-founder: my soon-to-be wife, who is not only helping with the designs but also the emotional support system that I need, and that I would be looking for in a co-founder.
I incorporated the company this week.
What’s Next?
I have collected lots of feedback from 60 or so active users, and there is one company that is piloting it with a team of 10 people.
I have lots of designs and improvements waiting to be built, and I’m talking to developers now to pay to continue building it.
I am convinced I can reach 1.000 active users by the end of 2022 with the means available. It won’t be easy, but I have a clear vision.
If you want to support me on this journey, you can now invest in my company as part of an initial family and friends round. If you’re interested, just reply to this email and I’ll send you more information and terms, and a videochat invite.
Alternatively, here is a small favour to ask. Please subscribe to my YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/MetaMeet
Once I have 1.000 subscribers (currently 540), I am able to make money off of YouTube to support the business.
Soon-to-be husband, founder, in the process of immigrating to the United States, exciting times ahead! Thank you so much for supporting me on this journey!
