I am an Afropolitan digital citizen now!
Estonia has 80.000+ e-residents
The island of Palau has 2.000.
Próspera has around 1.000.
These residencies provide you with options to do business, travel, and even provide you with a passport (Palau).
Palau's slogan is apt: "The GPS coordinates of your birthplace should not determine your future."
What that does is provide legitimacy. It tells other jurisdictions, this is someone who is accepted here.
It's solving a problem that is inhumane but true: you're a human with rights only if you have the right passport.
Passports are the biggest reason for inequality in the world.
This legitimacy is especially critical for Africans, whose passports make it very hard to travel and work elsewhere.
This can be life-threatening.
I learned about this problem when I helped 1.000+ Ukrainian families get out of the country into Europe and find shelter.
But Ukraine also has a lot of African students.
They couldn't leave the country for Europe. Many had to stay behind and wait for months. There was little we could do.
What if they had a passport and legitimacy (well, human rights) to escape to other countries more easily?
A digital embassy and community that helps them?
