Law as the Software of Society, Open Source Legal Kernels and Competitive Governance
Podcast Ep. 7 with Tom W. Bell
I recorded a new podcast episode with Tom W. Bell, the Satoshi Nakamoto of Startup Cities:
Law as the Software of Society, Open Source Legal Kernels and Competitive Governance.
What if law is the software of society?
Think about it. Every society runs on it.
People have the same potential anywhere. The difference is in the legal system.
Hong Hong, Dubai, Shenzhen, Singapore developed from poor hinterlands into wealthy megacities in only a few decades.
What if you codify different legal codes plug & play and see what works best.
Sounds utopian?
It’s already happening.
Tom W. Bell developed an open source legal “kernel” called Ulex, inspired by the Linux philosophy. Naturally, it is available on GitHub.
Ulex is the basis of law in places like Próspera and Catawba Digital Economic Zone. There are 23 “network unions” experimenting with new laws & governance.
In my new podcast episode, I talked to Tom about his creation.
Before I had the conversation, I likened Tom’s work to the Bitcoin Whitepaper.
After the conversation, I think it’s even bigger.
The blockchain is rapidly changing the architecture of the digital world.
Startup cities are full-stack platforms for the real world.
P.S.:
Sorry to some subscribers who complained about the high frequency of posts. This is only because there was a backlog of podcast episodes. This is the last one for now, and you will only get new podcast episodes once per week. Feel free to send feedback!
